The relevance of the church today:: relevance of the church today
Increasingly over the years the church broadly speaking has been portayed as out of touch or behind the times or not relevant to peoples needs and people wants.
There is however one important point we are missing when we talk about the relevance of the church to society. We generally always think first about number 1 ... "whats in it for me" and this is particularly true in today self promoting, self seeking society. BUT the first question we should ask is "how relevant is the church to God !"
After all - it was God who invented the church and started it all off - what is HIS view on the relevance of the church. The answer to this question is that the church is of supreme relevance to God - because its is the ONLY way we can come to God... by becoming part of the church, the universal body of Christ.
PLEASE NOTE : becoming part of THE church is NOT the same as joining an organisation that hold religious meetings in a building. Many who go weekly to religoius meetings are not part of the church of Jesus Christ because they simply have never come to a saving relationship with Jesus. NO church organisation can save a hell-bound sinner - only Jesus can and if we come to Him and commit our lives to Him He saves us there and then and we BECOME part of the church - which is made up of people all over the world who belong to Him and can truly call Him "Lord"!

Church (in the correct sense) is totally relevant to God because its how He saves people - and God loves people and wants them to be saved ! - church exists because it is designed by God, built by God and relevant to Him!

Evolutionist, left wing activist and famous author of the "I Robot" series of books, the late Dr. Isaac Asimov was working as Professor at Boston University School of Medicine in 1970. He wrote an article at that time called "In the game of energy and thermodynamics you can't even break even." which appeared in the Smithsonian Institute Journal, June 1970. On page 10 he stated �� and in man is a three-pound brain which, as far as we know, is the most complex and orderly arrangement of matter in the universe."
Asimov clearly recognises and admits that the most orderly and complex structure in the whole universe is the human brain.
Is it not incredible indeed that within this 3 pound mass there is the capacity to think, love, hate, appreciate beauty, understand morality, to laugh, to feel joy� the ability to design spacecraft, to understand mathematics, to create novels, to sing, to worship etc etc. Yet is it not even more incredible that an intelligent person like Asimov thinks this incredible brain with more COMPLEXITY and ORDER than anything in the known universe was produced by mindless SIMPLE non-intelligent chemicals and DISORDER. In other words Isaac Asimov truly believed that if you leave a puddle of chemicals long enough it makes Isaac Asimov's brain all by itself !

Let me say - I personally don�t have enough faith to be an atheist. When I look at the evidence all around me I have to accept that what the Bible says is true.... "I am fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalms 139:14). Asimov shows he is part of the ranks of those who "professing themselves wise� have become fools" (Romans 1:22)

This is a good point Alan. The CEV(Contemporary English Version)Bible translates the Behemoth as a HIPPO! However, it says that the beast moves its tail like a cedar tree. To have a tail like a cedar tree means this beast must have been much bigger then a Hippo.

In Job 41, the CEV also translates the Leviathan as a crocodile. I personally don't agree with this and on the whole fond the CEV to be a weak and watered down translation (more suitable for children).

It was good to have some fun and relax in the church building. Play the nintendo wii on the BIG SCREEN with the BIG SOUND was great. We will have to do it again some time.
